There are a variety of resources, both internal and external, to search for grant funding.
Mount Sinai Resources
There are two departments at the Icahn School of Medicine that can help researchers learn about and obtain grants and funding:
- The Corporate and Foundations Relations Office can assist you in obtaining a foundation grant.
- The Grants and Contracts Office posts information about government funding sources and compiles a monthly list of funding opportunities.
Candid Search from Candid
Candid Search (formally Foundation Directory Online) is a research tool from the non profit organization Candid that you can use to find the grantmakers most likely to fund your projects. This tool includes grantmaker information and funding history.
While the Levy Library does not subscribe to Candid Search, you can register to use a free basic version of Candid Search. This will give you the ability to search Foundation 990-PFs by keyword and browse over 100,000 foundation profiles free of charge.
If you want to search the full version of Candid Search, you can either visit a Candid partner (they have a location in every borough in NYC and locations in New Jersey, and Connecticut) or purchase a personal subscription. Use the Candid community partner locator can help you find a library near you that offers free access to the full version of Candid Search.
Other Candid Resources
- Philanthropy News Digest (published by Candid) posts freely available foundation RFPs, you can limit by subject and search by keyword. There are subject categories for medical research, sci-tech, and mental health, among others.
- Candid Help & knowledge are very thorough and provide information about obtaining funding, proposal writing, and related fundraising topics.
- Candid Ask Us: chat with a Candid librarian for further assistance.
