There are two options to create OpenAthens links:

1. OpenAthens Link Generator Tool

  • Go to https://go.openathens.net/generate/mssm.edu/81008449
  • Paste the URL for the resource you would like to use into the "Enter your links" field. You can paste multiple links separated by a space or new line.
  • Click Enter.
  • The tool should generate an OpenAthens link to the resource that you could copy and paste wherever you need to use it (Blackboard, syllabus, email, etc.).

2. Manually Create a Resource Link

You can also manually add the OpenAthens prefix to existing library articles, journals, books, videos, databases or other resources*.

OpenAthens Prefix: https://go.openathens.net/redirector/mssm.edu?url=

  • Capture the resource URL you would like to create a link for.

  • Add the following prefix BEFORE the resource URL: https://go.openathens.net/redirector/mssm.edu?url=
  • The new resource URL should look like the following:

*Please note that if replacing the prefix does not work, try using the link generator instead.  Some URLs include special characters that the link generator will encode for you.
