If you do not see the EndNote extension tab displayed on your Google Doc after installing and activating the extension on your web browser, please check the following:

  1. Do you have the latest version of EndNote installed?
    • Google Docs only works on version EndNote 21 or later. If you are running an older version of EndNote, please check for and install updates in your EndNote desktop application.
      • Install updates for Windows: under the “Help” menu, choose “Check for Updates…”.
      • Install updates for macOS: under the “EndNote 21” menu, choose “Check for Updates…”.
  2. Check your document type
    • The EndNote extension only works for Google Docs. If your document type is listed as a .DOCX or Microsoft Word format, the extension option will not display.

  • To change your document type go to the menu ribbon and click File --> Save as Google Docs

  • This will create a copy of the original document in a Google Doc format and you should now see the extension tab displayed in the newly created copy.

TIP: You will need to register for an EndNote Web in order to use the extension. If you have not registered for an EndNote Web account, you can learn how to get started in our EndNote Guide: https://libguides.mssm.edu/endnote/endnoteweb
